The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a grid (1) for a battery electrode, which comprises a number N of spaced-apart longitudinal ribs (2) and a number M of spaced-apart transversal ribs (3) that are disposed between the longitudinal ribs (2) and are joined thereto. According to the inventive method, the grid (1) is punched out of a metal band (14). Said metal band (14) is guided between at least one pair of tools (11, 17) comprising a top and/or a bottom punching tool that is/are provided with a surface structure which cause/s the grid (1) to be punched at least approximately down to the region of a cutting area, the cutting area being embodied at least approximately in the zone of a cross-sectional plane that extends through the longitudinal ribs (2) and/or the number N of longitudinal ribs being subdivided onto at least two at least approximately parallel grid planes (6 - 9). Also disclosed is a grid that is produced by means of said method.
