PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film-forming resin for hair fixing, not becoming sticky even in high humidity, capable of keeping the hair style for a long period, and exhibiting excellent cleanability at shampooing; and to provide a hair cosmetic containing the resin. SOLUTION: The film-forming resin for the hair fixing is obtained by copolymerizing monomer components comprising the following monomer components (A) to (D): (A) CH<SB>2</SB>=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-COO-R<SP>2</SP>-Si(OR<SP>3</SP>)<SB>3</SB>of 0.5-20 wt.%; (B) CH<SB>2</SB>=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-COOR<SP>4</SP>of 20-98.5 wt.%; (C) CH<SB>2</SB>=C(R<SP>1</SP>)-COO-R<SP>5</SP>-OH of 0.5-60 wt.% and (D) an ampholytic group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer of 0.5-50 wt.%. (In the formulas, R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R<SP>2</SP>is a 1-3C divalent saturated hydrocarbon group; R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-3C alkyl group or an acetyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a 1-18C alkyl group; and R<SP>5</SP>is a 2-8C alkylene group).
