PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent waste consumption of long recording media due to approach conveyance and failure while appropriately adjusting initial conditions of the recording media, when loading the recording media. SOLUTION: A delivery mechanism 33, a tension measuring mechanism 34 and an outlet side guide roller 36 are provided in a conveying device 3 for conveying roll paper P to a printing device 2. After a loop is formed in the downstream side of the outlet side guide roller 36 by conveying predetermined amount of roll paper P to a normal direction by the delivery mechanism 33, the roll paper P is conveyed to the reverse direction while being collected and is positioned. In addition, an inlet delivery mechanism 330 and an outlet delivery mechanism 331 are provided in the delivery mechanism 33. The inlet delivery mechanism 330 reversely conveys only minute amount of the roll paper P and the outlet delivery mechanism 331 normally conveys only minute amount of the roll paper P. Due to this, the roll paper P is pulled from its both sides to increase its tension. In the state where the delivery mechanism 33 is stopped, the tension is measured by the tension measuring mechanism 34 and a process to increase the tension until it exceeds a predetermined value is repeated.
