A needle insertion device capable of being detached from an injector assembly after a projecting tip of a needle insertion member is isolated as far as possible from the member. A lancet assembly (100) having a lancet (101) and a protective cover (102), in which (1) the lancet has a lancet body (104), a lancet cap (106), and an insertion needle member (105), the insertion needle member being located in a straddling manner in the lancet body and the lancet cap, the tip (124) of the insertion needle member being surrounded by the lancet cap, and (2) the protective cover is placed surrounding the lancet body, and after needle insertion, the protective cover can be moved so as to be positioned around the tip of the insertion needle member which tip projects forward from the lancet body.
