LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE AND MOBILE ELECTRONIC DEVICE USING THE SAME

There are provided a thin-type liquid crystal display device capable of performing high-quality display and a mobile electronic device using the liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate arranged at the observer side of the first substrate, a liquid crystal layer arranged between the first and the second substrate, and a linear light source (1) arranged at the side of the first substrate and emitting light toward the side of first substrate. The first substrate has a selective reflection layer for selectively reflecting light of a particular polarization state. The linear light source (1) has a point light source (2) and a linear light introduction body (3) for introducing the light emitted from the point light source to the side of the first substrate. The linear light introduction body (3) has a selective reflection unit (5) for selectively reflecting light (S polarized light) of a first polarization state among the light coming into the linear light introduction body from the point light source and a polarization conversion unit (6) for converting light (P polarized light) of a second polarization state which is different from the first polarization state among the light coming into the linear light introduction body from the point light source into light (S polarized light) of the first polarization state.
