<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of deterioration in image quality such as density gap in a print image caused by edge enhancement processing when printing is performed using dark and light toner of the same color system. <P>SOLUTION: Color separation (1006) for obtaining gray data is performed following to edge enhancement (1005) and edge enhancement processing is performed for C, M, Y and K data, respectively, before color separation. Consequently, a part of significant variation in density having no relation with an image such as a density switching part can be eliminated in edge enhancement.
