The invention provides fasteners for surgical fastening. The surgical fastener of the invention has a crown from which extend two or more prongs. The prongs are parallel to the axis of the crown and each prong is provided with one or more barbs. The invention also provides a system for surgical fastening including a surgical fastening device configured to deploy one or more surgical fasteners of the invention and one or more surgical fasteners of the invention.
