The method involves detecting biometric characteristics of a person by utilizing an imaging unit. The detected biometric characteristics or image data is compared with a known data set and/or original images and an identification or verification of the person is carried out. Retina of an eye is provided as a biometric object for detection of the characteristics, where movement or fixation of the eye is detected. An independent claim is also included for a system for biometric identification and verification of a person.
