PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasoline contamination detector and a detection method for simply and rapidly finding the range of firing points of a specimen in order to estimate the amount of gasoline get-mixed or a firing point in case there is a suspicion that a small amount of gasoline has got mixed in kerosene or gas oil, thereby detecting whether the specimen is contaminated by the gasoline. SOLUTION: This gasoline contamination detector and this gasoline contamination detector set are characterized by comprising: a specimen housing container; an air supply line for supplying air into the specimen in the container; a suction means for sucking a vapor-liquid equilibrium gas existing in the container; a reaction tube provided between the suction means and the container for containing a reaction agent that discolors in reaction with vaporized gasoline components (gaseous hydrocarbon in the equilibrium gas); and a dummy tube replaceable with the reaction tube. In this detection method, the detector set is used for detecting the contamination extent of a specimen, and also simply detecting whether contamination is present, and whether the kerosene or gas oil satisfies JIS standards.
