PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for satisfying that when a steel material coated with a zinc primer-type primary rustproof coating composition is subjected to laser cutting, cutting speed is upped without the occurrence of defective cutting, while preventing the lowering of productivity caused by cutting interruption in the nighttime unmanned operation. SOLUTION: The applied coating composition contains the followings: (1) an alkoxy silane having at least two alkoxy groups and/or its hydrolysate or condensate (binder), (2) a zinc powder, (3) SiO<SB>2</SB>and (4) a powder of an Al supplying source consisting of Al and/or an Al compound. The amount of the zinc powders is 30-80 mass% and the amount of SiO<SB>2</SB>is 5-40 mass%, based on the amount of the total solid components; and the Al supplying source is controlled so as for the Si/Al mass ratio in the total components excluding the binder to be in the range of 1-20.
