PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane material having high membrane strength and high adhesion to a support, and to provide a method for forming the membrane material. SOLUTION: A membrane wherein metal and/or metal oxide nanoparticles and an inorganic composite resin or metal oxide gel interact is formed by applying a mixture containing the metal and/or metal oxide nanoparticles and the organic/inorganic composite resin or a metal oxide precursor sol, obtained by using a metal alkoxide as a main raw material, onto a support and then irradiating the support coated with the mixture with a laser.
