PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly detect abnormality such as separation or a rubber cut caused in a driving roller or a pressing roller constituting a handrail driving device of a passenger conveyor. SOLUTION: A pressing roller abnormality detecting device 28a is composed of a pin 31a slidably supported by a support plate 30a fixed to a base 29, a detector 32a fixed on the pin, a position holding spring 34a holding the free end 33a of the detector in a position in close vicinity to the pressing roller 21a, a switch 35a arranged on the pin and an operation disk 36a operating this switch. A recess 37a is formed in a part of the circumference on the operation disk, and an actuator 38a of the switch abuts on this recess. The free end of the detector has the length over the whole width direction of the pressing roller 21a. The position holding spring holds a position in a degree of rotating the detector when a separator 39a of the pressing roller strikes on the free end of the detector.
