The method involves injecting fuel in an engine based on control signals from a control device (100) which has an output stage (130), during a combustion cycle. The interference of the control signals is examined and the control signal of one of the injections is delayed. The interference occurs when the intervals of the signals fall below a minimum interval. The duration of the delayed signal is corrected based on the delay. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for controlling an internal combustion engine.
