PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stretchable nonwoven fabric which consists mainly of polylactic acid staple fibers and has excellent stretchability. SOLUTION: This method for producing the stretchable nonwoven fabric comprises blending polylactic acid-based staple fibers having a latent crimp-developing property with highly shrinkable staple fibers having a dry heat shrinkability of 15 to 80% at 120°C in a highly shrinkable staple fiber mixing rate of 5 to 40 mass% to obtain the nowwoven fabric, and then thermally treating the obtained nowwoven fabric at a temperature at which the latent crimp-developing property of the polylactic acid staple fibers is actualized and the highly shrinkable staple fibers are thermally shrunk.
