PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a petrolatum-containing O/W-type emulsion composition, enabling the compounding of a large amount of petrolatum, having excellent spreadability and tacklessness, etc., owing to the O/W-type emulsification and giving good feeling in use. SOLUTION: The emulsion composition contains (1) a water-swelling clay mineral, (2) one or more substances selected from an organic-modified clay mineral, a polyether-modified silicone oil and a hydrocarbon-based nonionic surfactant and (3) 10-60 mass% oil containing 30-100 mass% petrolatum. The hydrocarbon-based nonionic surfactant is selected from POE(12) diisostearate, POE(20)POP(8) cetyl ether, POE(24)POP(13) 2-decyl tetradecyl ether, decaglyceryl diisostearate, POE(20) behenyl ether and POE(60) hardened castor oil, and the compounding amount of the petrolatum is 10-50 mass% in the composition.
