The adjusting device for the TIRF lighting of a microscope, in which the image of a laser beam (2) falling through the lens (1) onto a safety hood which is connected to the microscope (7) is controlled and, adjusted by an adjusting unit, wherein the safety hood at the location (5) of the image is formed as a ground-glass screen. The safety hood may be detachable and has a detector or a marking which represents the optimum adjusting state.
