Adhesive (A), preferably as an aqueous dispersion, comprises a dispersoid of a polymer (P1) made from ethylenically unsaturated monomers; a first dispersing agent (I) and, the new feature, a vinyl alcohol polymer (P2) as additional dispersant. (I) is a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) modified by ethylene units at less than 20, preferably 3-9, mole%. An independent claim is also included for a composite article made of at least two layers bound together through (A).
