PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of accurately and certainly detecting the unstable state of a vehicle and thereby preventing rolling of the vehicle. SOLUTION: A front side roll angle (or roll angular velocity) and a rear side roll angle (or roll angular velocity) of the vehicle are detected and the respective roll angular velocities (or roll angles) are calculated from the respective roll angles (or roll angular velocities). When all of conditions (2), (3) and (1) or all of conditions (2), (3) and (4) are satisfied of the following conditions: condition (1): ¾ rear side roll angle ¾≥¾ front side roll angle ¾, condition (2): ¾ front side roll angular velocity ¾<¾ rear side roll angular velocity ¾, condition (3): rear side roll angle*rear side roll angular velocity>0 and condition (4): front side roll angular velocity*rear side roll angular velocity<0, it is determined that the vehicle is in the unstable state.
