The system has a contact insert (1a) inserted into a housing and comprising contact carriers. The carriers have female or male interfaces (3) at their ends. Contacts are arranged in the interfaces and have a contact pin (4a) or a contact socket. The units are provided with conductor connections (13) at their ends that are turned away from the interfaces for connecting conductor ends. Female and male plug connectors are provided with the connections (13) in different connection methods. The carriers of the female and male plug connectors are identically formed independent of the connection methods of the connections (13). An independent claim is also included for a plug connector for a plug connector system.
