Coverage of the need for polymers (I) containing >=90 wt.% radically polymerized acrylic acid, its salts or its alkyl esters in specified first countries or locations involves the following steps carried out in specified second oil-producing countries (1) heterogeneously catalyzed partial oxidation of propylene and/or propane to acrylic acid, followed, if required, by forming a salt by base neutralization or by esterification with an alkanol; (2) radically polymerization of the product(s) to give polymers (I); and (3) exporting polymer (I) (optionally base-neutralized) to the specified first countries.
