<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting biting in a pillow packaging machine capable of more surely detecting biting caused by foreign substances. <P>SOLUTION: A detecting signal corresponding to a position of a shaft 13 of a rotating body 11A is outputted to a CPU 37 from a head part 32. When the CPU 37 receives a gate signal G outputted from a sequencer 50 in accordance with the angle of rotation of the rotating body 11A when fusing by a heater part 22 is performed, a period of high level of this gate signal G, namely, the detecting signal when the fusing by the heater part 22 is performed, is sampled.
