PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user authentication method with which a user can be identified surely and processed, from a read image.

SOLUTION: A document containing graphic indicia is read by an image processor, credentials data are extracted from the read graphical indicia, and the extracted certification data are transmitted to a remote arithmetic unit. The remote arithmetic unit identifies the user, based on the certification data. According to this, access is permitted or is not permitted.
