<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of performing an appropriate automatic adjustment operation without waiting for a user needlessly when activating a printer engine. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus demands the transmission of a current time from a printer controller when the operation of the printer engine is stopped or activated. From first current time information informed when the operation is stopped and second current time information informed when the operation is activated, the image forming apparatus calculates the length of time that the printer engine has been left in the state of being not operated. Thus, the automatic adjusting process to stabilize image quality is properly performed at the start of the printer engine according to the length of time that the printer engine has been left in the state of being not operated.
