PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color conversion apparatus and a color conversion method whereby an output device reproduces colors of a target device with high accuracy and high gradation by keeping a ink version in the target device as much as possible within a range of placing a limit on a color material total amount of the output device and ensuring the monotonousity of color materials other than the ink. SOLUTION: An optimum ink amount determining section 13 in the color conversion apparatus determines an optimum ink amount on the basis of a ink amount K and device independent color signals resulting from converting CMYK color signals of the target device. In this case, the color conversion apparatus calculates a proper total amount limit value by each ink amount so as to make the upper limit of the total amount of the color materials except the ink color constant, generates lower side outer shell face device independent color signals for configuring a lower side outer shell face corresponding to each ink amount on the basis of the proper total amount limit value by each ink amount, and generates a model for calculating the proper ink amount corresponding to each device independent color signal on the basis thereof. The color conversion apparatus uses this model to calculate the proper ink amount on the basis of the device independent color signals of the target device and calculates the ink amount of the output device color signal on the basis of each of the proper ink amount and the ink amount of the target device color signals.
