PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surfactant which effectively decreases dynamic and equilibrium surface tensions of an aqueous system and also can give an influence to bubble forming. SOLUTION: The surfactant composition comprises one or more compounds of formula (I). In the formula: R<SP>1</SP>is methyl, ethyl, or 1-propyl; and R is a 4-20C aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, or a cyclic, cycloaliphatic, or secondary, branched or bicyclic alkyl group, a polyhydroxy alkyl group, isophorone residue and the like.
