PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a coating liquid for a coated retardation plate, which forms a coated retardation plate containing an organic modified clay composite and keeps adhesive force high in lamination to liquid crystal cell glass. SOLUTION: In producing a coating liquid by mixing an organic solvent with an organic modified clay composite and a binder resin, the organic solvent is mixed with the organic modified clay composite and the binder resin, then treated with an adsorbent for removing impurities contained in the mixture to produce the coating liquid for a coated retardation plate. A substrate is coated with the coating liquid and dried to produce a coated retardation plate, a polarizing plate 11 having an adhesive layer 12 is laminated to the exposed surface of the coated retardation plate 15 formed on a transfer substrate 20 at its adhesive layer side and then the transfer substrate 20 is released from the coated retardation plate 15 to produce a composite polarizing plate.
