PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To machine a workpiece with high accuracy by correcting the thermal displacement of a structure of a machine tool. SOLUTION: A lathe 10 includes a bed 11 and a spindle stock 12 fixed thereto, the bed 11 is provided with a carriage 16 to freely move, and the carriage 16 is provided with a cross slide 18 to freely move. The bed 11 and the spindle stock 12 are of movable structure, and the workpiece W is machined by the machining tool T. An equivalent metal body 41 having a thermal characteristic corresponding to the thermal characteristic of the structure is exposed to a cutting liquid sprayed to the machining tool T, and the similar equivalent metal body 41a is exposed to cooling oil for cooling an electric motor 23. Signals from a temperature sensors provided on the equivalent metal bodies 41, 41a are transmitted to a control part for controlling the feed travel of the machining tool T to thereby correct the feed travel.
