PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for sorting lightweight waste materials capable of precisely recovering lightweight waste materials with a small specific gravity and a small specific gravity difference, and a method for sorting mixed waste materials. SOLUTION: The apparatus for sorting lightweight waste materials comprises a sorting tank 5 for sorting lightweight waste materials according to a specific gravity difference in a liquid, vertically pulsating means 6 having an air chamber 61 that vertically pulsates the liquid in the sorting tank 5, an inclined sorting screen unit 16 having a floor mesh 71 that vertically partitions the inside of the sorting tank 5, a ceiling mesh 16a being disposed above the floor mesh 71 and downwardly inclined to a recovering port 13 side, and a plurality of particulate materials 73 of which layer on the recovering port 13 side is laminated more thinly than that on a loading port 11 side in a space between the floor mesh 71 and the ceiling mesh 16a, and a rotary feeder 9 being disposed inside of the recovering port 13 and recovering the sorted waste materials, wherein an inclination angleβof a straight line connecting the recovering port 13 with an upper end of the rotary feeder 9 is set to be larger than an inclination angleαof the ceiling mesh 16a.
