<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate a search for a desired image. <P>SOLUTION: A face detection engine 32 detects the number of face image elements included in images stored in image files 41 supplied from an external device or image files 41 supplied from a file system 31. A face information database 33 associates and stores each image and face detection information representing the number of detected face image elements.
