<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crack detecting method for a fuel cell separator capable of detecting even a micro crack that could not be detected by conventional nondestructive flaw-detecting methods such as ultrasonic or X-ray ones or a leak check, as well as a manufacturing method of a fuel cell stack. <P>SOLUTION: (1) The crack detecting method for the fuel cell separator gives the separator 18 a load promoting crack, and then detects the crack of the separator 18. (2) The manufacturing method of the fuel cell stack includes a loading process 104 giving the separator a load promoting the crack, and a crack detecting process 105 detecting a crack of the separator. (3) The loading process 104 is a process of applying a thermal load by passing fluid with a temperature higher than a separator temperature at operation of the fuel cell in a fluid path of the separator. (4) The loading process 104 is a process of applying a pressure load by passing fluid with a pressure higher than fluid pressure at the separator at operation of the fuel cell in a fluid path of the separator.
