PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device for light controlling a discharge lamp which can control lighting stably without having a defect such as flickering and turning-out by suppressing fluctuations in discharge lamp output even in the case the ambient temperature has dropped.

SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device lights the discharge lamp DL through a resonant circuit 5 by a high frequency voltage of an inverter part 4. The lighting device comprises an output detecting means R1 for detecting an electric output of the discharge lamp DL, a light-control signal generation circuit 9 which establishes a light-control instruction value according to the light control signal input, and a feedback control means B which compares and calculates a detected signal output from the output detecting means R1 and the light-control instruction value output from the light-control signal generation circuit 9 and changes an On-Off signal generated by an inverter control means A according to the calculation result. Furthermore, a pulse voltage superposing means C which impresses a pulsating high voltage on the discharge lamp DL with a prescribed period is provided.
