<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling exercise so as to maintain a variable indicating body conditions of a living body within a suitable range while measuring the variable and making the living body perform the controlled exercise and to provide an exercise apparatus controlled by the method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for controlling the exercise is carried out as follows. The momentum for making the living body L (without including a human) perform the exercise is determined on the basis of results of measurement while measuring the specific variable X indicating the body conditions of the living body L. Thereby, the exercise of the living body L is controlled so as to afford the determined momentum.
