PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a putrefactive odor preventive agent for marine organisms emitting considerably offensive odor as a result of their short-term putrefaction, and to provide a method for preventing such putrefactive odor. SOLUTION: The method for preventing the above-mentioned putrefactive odor comprises adding a 3-15%, preferably 5-10% aqueous solution of 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol to marine organisms so as to be 10-1,000 ppm in its concentration based on the marine organisms. In this method, although it is effective that the 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-propanediol is added singly, its use in the presence of sodium phosphate of pH 4-5.5 can prevent the corrosion of metals used in relevant treatment apparatuses, furthermore, owing to its synergistic effect with the sodium phosphate, such putrefactive odor emissions can be more effectively prevented.
