PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clinical thermometer capable of measuring the body temperature approximate to the core temperature (central temperature) easily and in a short period of time, and a heat insulating material used therein. SOLUTION: The clinical thermometer comprises a temperature detecting part, the heat insulating material for covering the temperature detecting part and the surface of a user's body around the temperature detecting part, a control part for converting the temperature signal obtained by the temperature detecting part to temperature information, and a temperature display part for displaying the temperature information. When the body temperature is measured by using the clinical thermometer, the temperature detecting part 1 is covered with the heat insulating material 2 via an adhesive layer 5 to be closely attached to the user's body 3, and at the same time, the heat insulating material 2 is closely attached to the user's body 3 via the adhesive layer 5.
