The character is formed by coating that is provided above the surface section, where a planar part (2) is formed on the coating. The coating has a predetermined electrical charge and transparent characteristics. The coating has a medium formed as a lacquer. An isolating layer is provided between the coating and the surface and is made of plastic. An independent claim is also included for a reading device for application with a data carrier.
