PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reproducing apparatus in which an opening part for a tray for placing is closed surely by a cover when the tray for placing is housed in an apparatus main body. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a tray for placing a disk type recoding carrier which can record and reproduce information, a recording and reproducing means for holding the disk type recording carrier and recording and reproducing information, and a cover means which is guided in the direction being almost parallel to the opening part near the opening part of an apparatus main body in which the tray is inserted through so as to slide and move freely to close the opening part. The cover means is provided with a cover in which dimension of the direction being almost parallel to the opening part is larger than the opening part, a guide member held to the apparatus main body at both side planes of the cover, guiding the cover in the direction being almost parallel to the opening part, and deciding a movement path of the cover, a rotation member positioned closer to the recording and reproducing means side than the cover and having an engaging pin in which one end part is rotated freely and the other end part is engaged to a switching guiding part of the back of the cover, and an energizing means energizing the cover to a direction closing the opening part.
