PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that can be downsized more than the size of conventional imaging apparatuses and to provide an on-vehicle camera system using the imaging apparatus disclosed herein. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element 5; and a sealing member 4 for sealing the imaging element 5, wherein the sealing member 4 is configured of a crystal that is optically transparent and has a birefringence with a refractive index anisotropy, and applying infrared ray cut-coat to at least one side of the sealing member 4 allows the sealing member 4 to realize three functions as a sealing function of the imaging element 5, an optical low pass filter function, and an infrared ray-cut filter function.
