Purification and humidifying apparatus for air in rooms comprises a plant container (2), in which a plant (6) rests in soil (4). A purifying unit is also immersed in the substrate. This comprises a casing (8c) with an inlet (10), through which water is pumped from the soil and a suction unit (20) for contaminated air. The inlet is fitted with a filter (12) made from hydrophilic material. An outlet (14) allows purified water from the unit to flow back into the soil. An independent claim is included for a purification module for use in plant containers which is as described above.
