The device has a humidity-measuring sensor (7) which is immersed in a gas flow (5) or in contact with the gas flow. The measuring sensor is shielded by a fine-pored, hydrophobic protective body (8) for protecting the sensor from aerosol particles (6) carried along in the gas flow. The protective body including a polymer sintered body encloses an interior space (9), in which the measuring sensor and/or a temperature sensor (10) is arranged. The body forms a measuring head with a cylindrical cross-section that is arranged based on an inner wall of a guide pipe within the gas flow. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a fuel cell system with a low temperature-fuel cell of a proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell.
