A ventilation system and a method for driving the same. The ventilation system includes a ventilation unit (20) for exhausting indoor air to an outdoor space and inhaling outdoor air to an indoor space; an air purification unit (10) for purifying the indoor air; an indoor sensing unit (91) for measuring a pollution level of the indoor air; an outdoor sensing unit (95) for measuring a pollution level of the outdoor air; and a controller (90) for determining whether or not the ventilation unit and the air purification unit are operated by comparing the pollution level of the indoor air to the pollution level of the outdoor air.
