A rotation and click type portable terminal and a data input method using the terminal are provided to enable a user to easily input number and character data even without opening a sub body on a main body, thereby supplying usage convenience and obtaining the reliability of the terminal for a user. A sub body(20) conducts an opening action in certain type on a main body(10). A hollow-type rotative bezel(30) is rotatively installed as a rim on a circular fixed body(21) of the sub body(20). A photo coupler consists of a light emitting unit and a light receiving unit installed around rims which constitute the inside diameter of the bezel(30) where a through hole unit and a non-through hole unit are formed in turns, so as to sense a rotative position of the bezel(30). A display device(22) is installed on the fixed body(21) to output correspondent data in accordance with the rotative position of the bezel(30) by sensing of the photo coupler. At least one select button(14) is installed at the right place of either the main body(10) or the sub body(20) to input displayed contents.
