A vehicle door (5a,5b), boot lid or bonnet is adapted to vehicle bodywork (1) in a crudely adjusted flush position and held there. E.g. the door is then finely adjusted in such a way that preset gap dimensions are applied as accurately as possible. For fine adjustment, a pneumatic suction device pulls the door against a mechanical stop (15) freely swiveling around vertical axis of rotation (13).
