The torsional vibration damper or decoupler for a drive plate in an internal combustion engine crankshaft or camshaft has a hollow section (12) formed in the end of the drive shaft (13). The torsion spring (13) is a rod with one end connected to the drive shaft and the other to the plate. One end of the hollow drive shaft section is mounted for free rotation in a bearing on the plate. The hollow shaft section can have a bearing shell (17) working with a corresponding shell (21) on the plate.
