The holder on each extension leg includes a second locking system comprising one or more slanting rings which extends at an angle to the first locking system. The second system includes a segment which is fixed inside the holder relative to the fixed segment in the first system and which can be slid relative to the extension leg guide. This segment can be slid in the locking direction towards the upper end of the leg using a maneuvering arm designed to release a diametrically-opposed segment in the second system and using a compression spring located between the two systems and designed to act upon them in opposite directions, in order to fix the extension leg into position. The arm is mounted in the holder and operated using a locking lever. The extension legs are mounted on guides extending parallel to the ladder side bars. The legs are joined together via a flexible connection extending along and in between the side bars. The first locking system comprises one or more rings and can be slid relative to the extension leg guide. The fixed segment in the first system is used to connect the latter to the holder and a diametrically-opposed segment in this system can be moved in the locking direction by moving the spring-loaded locking lever towards the foot of the ladder in order to fix the leg into position. This lever is joined to the connection between the legs. |
