PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform motion vector detection with a minimized calculation amount without deterioration of accuracy in a motion vector detector for detecting, by correlation of pixels between two time-sequential frame images in animation, a motion vector showing a temporal motion of an image within the two frame images. SOLUTION: The motion vector detector for calculating a motion vector of a search frame based on a reference frame comprises: a first correlation value calculation part calculating a plurality of first correlation values showing the correlation of a reference typical point in the reference frame with a plurality of second pixels among a search typical point within the search frame corresponding to the reference typical point and a plurality of first pixels located in a close area surrounding the search typical point; and a second correlation value calculation part calculating a plurality of second correlation values showing the correlation of the reference typical point with a plurality of fourth pixels among a plurality of third pixels located in a rough area surrounding the close area, in which the ratio of the number of the fourth pixels to the number of the third pixels is smaller than the ratio of the number of second pixels to the number of the first pixels.
