PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the recording quality from deteriorating resulting from the splashing of an ink mist after flushing while avoiding the reduction of the throughput as much as possible at a low cost without inviting the complication and the enlargement of the device. SOLUTION: A carriage 2 equipped with a recording head which discharges an ink includes a reciprocation region A<SB>1</SB>at the time of a recording motion is performed, and a flushing section 6 in a reciprocation available region A<SB>0</SB>in the main scanning direction. A control section which performs the driving control of the carriage 2 shortens a standing-by time W<SB>t</SB>for making the carriage 2 stand by at the flushing section 6 after the flushing from printing paper size information as a distance L between the printing paper side end and the flushing section 6 becomes larger. Thus, the contamination on the recording surface of the recording paper by the ink mist can be prevented from occurring while avoiding the reduction of the throughput as much as possible.
