摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device having proper alignment characteristics and concurrent high reliability. SOLUTION: Disclosed is the liquid crystal display device which has a pair of substrates 10 and 20 between which liquid crystal is held, an oblique vapor-deposited film provided on at least one of the pair of substrates, and films 19 and 29 formed by chemically bonding an organic surface treating material to the top surface of the oblique vapor-deposited film; and the obliquely-vapor-deposited film is different in surface temperature with regions during the operation of the liquid crystal device, and the films 19 and 20 are formed by using the organic surface treating material which has a relatively long alkyl group, as compared with the organic surface treating material, used for regions (where films 19b and 29b are formed) where the obliquely-vapor-deposited film has the highest surface temperature during the operation of the liquid crystal device, for regions (where films 19a and 29a are formed) where the obliquely-vapor-deposited film has the lowest surface temperature.
