PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound having excellent control effect on harmful organisms and to provide application of the compound for controlling harmful organisms. SOLUTION: The malononitrile compound is represented by formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C fluoroalkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a halogen atom, a 1-11C alkyl group which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, a 2-6C alkenyl group which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, a 2-6C alkynyl group which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms or a 3-11C cycloalkyl group which may be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, with the proviso that at least one of R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>represents a 1-4C alkyl group).
