PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-concentration hydrogen iodide aqueous solution by improving the solubility of sulfur dioxide in water in a reaction for producing hydrogen iodide to enhance a conversion rate of sulfur dioxide into sulfuric acid or into hydrogen iodide. SOLUTION: The method for producing hydrogen iodide comprises a step of reacting an iodine-containing aqueous solution with sulfur dioxide under pressure (≥0.1 MPa gauge pressure) to produce the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution and sulfuric acid. Otherwise, sulfuric acid and the hydrogen iodide aqueous solution can be produced by adding sulfur dioxide to water under pressure to produce a first aqueous solution containing sulfur dioxide or sulfurous acid and mixing the first aqueous solution with a second aqueous solution containing iodine under pressure.
