The generator or starter generator has its own cooling circuit that is independent from the engine of the vehicle, and that is integrated into an E-machine. An associated electronic control unit is provided for controlling both the cooling circuit and the generator. The cooling circuit includes a coolant pump, a heat exchanger and a fan. A cooling agent, in the form of thermal fluid or thermal oil, flows through the cooling circuit to cool the generator.
